Motivate Systems See Incredible Growth in 2016
From Boston to the Bay Area, our systems are expanding fast and furiously. Here’s a rundown:
Thanks to our partnership with Ford, the Bay Area Bike Share, soon to be renamed Ford GoBike, is set to expand ten-fold, from 700 to 7,000 bikes.
We also won the contract to continue to operate Capital Bikeshare after growing that program over the years to a total of 4,520 bicycles and 426 stations and adding Fairfax County to the network, and we were selected by MAPC to continue operations of Hubway after increasing its fleet by more than 15% since this time last year.
In Chicago, Divvy continues to grow by leaps and bounds, now with 175 new stations reaching as far as the nearby suburbs of Evanston and Oak Park. Due to popular demand, Citi Bike also added stations, 139 to be exact, throughout NYC in neighborhoods like East Harlem, Park Slope and Red Hook, and the Jersey City fleet grew by 150 bikes. In Toronto, thanks to Metrolinx, our bike share doubled in size over the course of just a few short months. And Bike Chattanooga and CoGo’s fleet, too, grew– the latter by the dozens!
When you add to that list our highly successful launch of BIKETOWN in Portland, which is thriving with 100 stations and 1,000 bikes, we grew our bike fleets by a total of 6,094 bikes in 2016.
All together Motivate operates nearly 30,000 bikes today, or two thirds of North America’s bike share fleet.
We look forward to see what 2017 brings as we continue to make bike share an integral part of the cities we serve.
