Motivate Recognized as 2017 Webby Awards Honoree
“I look at good design as a way for people to easily connect to and understand everything we do,” says Brent Arnold, Motivate’s Creative Director. “I want someone to be able to easily sign-up for bike share and take their first ride, as much as I want someone to easily understand our app, websites and marketing material.”
That’s the sentiment behind our recent redesign of the Motivate family’s websites, including the sites for Citi Bike in NYC & Jersey City, Hubway in the Boston area, Capital Bikeshare in the D.C. metro area, Divvy in Chicago, CoGo in Columbus and BIKETOWN in Portland.
We wanted the sites to be engaging, useful and beautiful, designed around the needs of both our current riders and our potential riders.
So we engaged the legendary team at Happy Cog, who have helped shape the digital design for esteemed organizations including Harvard, Yale, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and high-profile companies including Thomson Reuters, MTV, Zappos, and more.
Happy Cog brought a fresh new look to our sites, creating richer information for visitors who are looking to try out bike share for the very first time and helping us optimize the sites for our riders on the go — meaning they work just as well on mobile browsers as they do on desktop. At the same time, our technology team created a unified codebase for our sites. This feature allows us to manage our sites more nimbly, whether we are creating new content or updating them with weather alerts or special promotional offers.
Besides garnering kudos from our customers, these efforts have also now received the recognition of the prestigious Webby Awards — the leading international award presentation, honoring excellence in web-based media and design. We were honored that they chose Motivate, together with web development firm Happy Cog, as an Honoree in the “Green” website category.
Through a seamless interface, our bike share systems’ websites allow riders (and soon-to-be riders) to easily find a bike or a dock, research nearby restaurants and cultural institutions, engage in a social media conversations with other riders, access 24-7 support services, and take advantage of seasonal contests.
Motivate aims to make urban bike share an intrinsic component of every modern city’s transportation infrastructure. By investing in an online platform that better communicates the benefits of bike share with riders, Motivate is generating greater excitement about a healthy, sustainable, affordable and convenient mode of travel while ensuring it is accessible to all.
