Ford GoBike Announces Free Ride Day Across Entire Bay Area To Mark Historic Global Climate Action Summit

Riders of the Bay Area’s healthiest and greenest transit option, Ford GoBike, have already pedaled 2.9 million miles, burned 125 million calories, and saved up to 2 million pounds of carbon emissions since launch.

SAN FRANCISCO – In celebration of the inaugural Global Climate Action Summit, Ford GoBike is offering free bike share rides throughout its entire Bay Area network on Thursday, September 13th. Free passes will be available in the Ford GoBike app, providing customers with unlimited free rides up to 30 minutes each throughout the day.

“As an environmental champion, Ford GoBike is proud to support Governor Brown’s climate summit with this free ride day,” said Emily Stapleton, Ford GoBike General Manager. “On September 13th we are making it easier than ever for riders to reduce their carbon footprints across our entire Bay Area network, and especially to and from the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco.”

Nick Nuttall, Spokesperson Global Climate Action Summit said, “We are delighted that Ford GoBike is offering ‘a people’s day’ of free rides inspired by our Summit. Pedal power and electric vehicles of all kinds are one way that citizens can play their part in addressing the biggest threat to humanity. Meanwhile bike shares and car shares also have other environmental and economic benefits that go beyond the operating footprint of these forms of transport. Let’s hope that day converts many more people to the freedom, convenience and eco-friendliness of shared bikes and alternative transportation,” he added.

The Global Climate Action Summit is committed to reducing the environmental impact of the summit itself, of which the free ride day on all Ford Go Bike rides plays a critical part. Registered summit attendees will also receive a pass for free Ford GoBike rides for the entire duration of the summit, September 12-15.

Ford GoBike is offering free passes to all summit attendees, available through the summit mobile app. Additionally at the summit, visitors to the Zero Emission Vehicle & Technology Showcase will be able to learn more about Ford GoBike Plus, the network’s new pedal-assist ebike. Ford GoBike is also supporting the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition’s “People Power: Advancing the Bicycle for Combating Climate Change” guided bike tour for summit participants.
