With 14 million rides in 2016, Citi Bike set another North American bike share record. (For a fun comparison, that’s more than double the 6.3 million people who visited the popular Metropolitan Museum of Art during the last fiscal year!) In fact, for the second year in a row Citi Bike riders have taken more trips than any other bike share program in the Western world aside from Paris’s Velib.

Citi Bike riders didn’t just break the record; they blew last year’s record away, with a 40% increase in trips over 2015. It’s a clear indication that the nation’s largest bike share has grown into an integral part of NYC’s transportation network. Citi Bike now regularly serves 60,000 trips a day, putting bike share on par with taxi trips in the outer boroughs and the Staten Island Ferry. By the end of 2017, it will have 12,000 bikes at over 700 stations. With the expanded service area, we can’t wait to see what new milestones are met in the coming months.
