Motivate Celebrates Earth Day

We celebrate Mother Earth with each mile we pedal but Earth Day is a great opportunity for us to reflect on how those many miles add up to big change. Last year alone, riders on Motivate systems reduced CO2 emissions by 29,625,723 lbs, with 15,797,817 of those lbs coming from Citi Bike riders. And a […]

Hubway’s Unicorn Madness

To help get Boston-area residents psyched to shake off winter and pedaling again, Hubway launched a fun-filled tournament dubbed #HubwayUnicornMadness. “Unicorn” in this context isn’t a billion dollar start-up. It refers to uniquely wrapped bike share bikes that stand out from the herd. Motivate has used unicorn bikes to celebrate Pride Month and the return […]

Winter Riding Tips from the Experts

Motivate is lucky to have hundreds of dedicated employees across all 11 of our systems, and many of them love to bike. In fact, many of them do it all year long. The truth is: winter riding can be exhilarating (and it can even expedite commutes while drivers sit in gridlock), and the vast majority of our […]

Happy New Year from Motivate!

Seasons greetings, friends. Please join us in taking a look back at our busy, joyful and bike-filled 2016! Here are some of the happiest and funniest (and a few of the strangest) things that happened this past year. Here’s to many more smiles and many more miles together in the year ahead!

Biking in a Winter Wonderland

This winter, Hubway, the Boston area’s beloved bike share system, will host its most expansive winter operations. More than 145 stations will remain available through January 1st, and all Cambridge stations will continue to operate year-round. Initially intended for three seasons (because Beantown winters bring the brrrrr), the bike share has kept its Cambridge stations […]

Motivate Systems See Incredible Growth in 2016

From Boston to the Bay Area, our systems are expanding fast and furiously. Here’s a rundown: Thanks to our partnership with Ford, the Bay Area Bike Share, soon to be renamed Ford GoBike, is set to expand ten-fold, from 700 to 7,000 bikes. We also won the contract to continue to operate Capital Bikeshare after […]

Happy Election Day!

It may not come as a surprise that cyclists are civic-minded. After all, they are reducing their carbon footprint by choosing a sustainable form of transportation to get around town. And today they really get to show off their zeal for the democratic process as they pedal their way to their local polling place and […]

Boston-Area MAPC Selects Motivate to continue Hubway Operations

We are thrilled to share that the Metropolitan Area Planning Council has announced its intention to award Motivate a contract to continue operating the Metropolitan Boston area’s beloved bike share, Hubway. Motivate operates the largest and best-performing bike share programs across North America, with nearly 30,000 bikes and over 200,000 active annual members in 11 […]

Hubway Reaches 5 Million Rides!

On October 21st, 2016, Hubway, the Boston area’s beloved 5-year-old bike share, reached a big milestone: 5 million rides! As if that didn’t give Hubway full license to brag, here are a few more numbers it can tout: 5 million rides translates to 9,206,649 miles; 395,054,024 calories burned; and 1,721,460 gallons of gasoline saved! Pretty impressive, […]

In the News: Motivate assembling bikes in Detroit

The Detroit Bikes factory sits on the West Side of the city near scattered abandoned homes and a junkyard full of rusted car parts. Inside, workers are taking test rides through the 50,000-square-foot facility on a fleet of freshly assembled bicycles destined for New York’s Citi Bike bike-share program.
