We are thrilled to share that the Metropolitan Area Planning Council has announced its intention to award Motivate a contract to continue operating the Metropolitan Boston area’s beloved bike share, Hubway.

Motivate operates the largest and best-performing bike share programs across North America, with nearly 30,000 bikes and over 200,000 active annual members in 11 metro areas. We’ve grown over the years since we first began operating Hubway and we are excited to apply the experience we’ve gained to continue to make Hubway a world-class bike share program.

As we reflect in gratitude on the first five years of Hubway, which launched in 2011, we are proud that Hubway has served as an inspiration for a whole generation of bike share programs across the nation. It was one of the nation’s first multi-jurisdictional systems, and today serves four municipalities. By all measures, Hubway is thriving. In fact, the popular program recently reached 5 million rides and installed its 184th station, and it also saw a 12% increase in membership from September of 2015 to September of 2016. Today we are eager to build on this winning track record as we work to increase membership and expand the program further, helping bring healthy, sustainable connectivity to the region.

We look forward to serving the residents in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, and Brookline and to continue to work in partnership with the local governments and the MAPC to ensure that Hubway continues to be on the leading edge of American bike share programs.
