King County and the City of Seattle have mandatory helmet laws. So Motivate had to figure out a Provide a simple and easy way for riders to rent and/or purchase a helmet at every station in the system. When we found there were no proven commercially available automated helmet vending products available we innovated. Motivate, working with 8D Technologies, developed a simple solution whereby clean helmets are in a locked container, accessed by entering a code on a PIN pad attached to the door. Annual members receive a four-digit code for the PIN pad. Short-term pass holders may “rent” a helmet at the kiosk for access to the current code.
