8D Technologies, part of the Motivate family, wins the 2017 Mercuriades award for web and mobile technology development
The Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec recognizes 8D’s contribution to urban mobility by developing technology that integrates the BIXI and OPUS systems
8D Technologies, leading bike share supplier and part of the Motivate family, is pleased to announce it has been selected as the winner of the prestigious 2017 Mercuriades award for excellence in web and mobile technology development.
The Mercuriades awards, presented by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ), celebrate the visionary and enterprising spirit as well as the know-how of Quebec businesses and their contributions to the economic development of the province and its regions.
The award was announced Monday night at a gala in Montreal, attended by over 900 business and civic leaders. 8D was selected in the category of Web and Mobile technology development for small and medium-enterprises (SMEs) in Quebec for the development of the OPUS for BIXI transit integration. The on-going project, a collaboration between 8D, BIXI Montréal, and the Société de Transport de Montréal, is the first of its kind in Canada and one of the first in North America. The integration allows BIXI users to rent a bike using their OPUS cards at select stations and to use the BIXI Montreal website and mobile application to locate OPUS enabled stations.
“I’m extremely proud of the great honour endowed to us by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec,” says Isabelle Bettez, 8D Technologies co-founder. “It’s a wonderful recognition of our 8D team that has been generating innovations for now over 20 years. By recognizing our efforts, it helps strengthen and reinforce the role of bike share in public transport.”
“Bike share is an exciting new form of urban transit,” says Jay Walder, President and CEO of 8D Technologies – Motivate. “It complements transit and extends its reach. And this award recognizes the importance of integrating bike share even more fully with traditional transit, making it a more seamless experience for the tens of thousands of BIXI riders and the millions of people around the globe who are making bike share a part of their daily lives.”
The Mercuriades award for Web and mobile technology honors initiatives taken in the development or integration of a digital platform that improves a business process, service or a product.
